Yuki Tsunoda commented on the unusual end of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The Alpha Tauri lap driver was not allowed to return to the end of the peloton in safety car mode, as he was already temporarily in the lead lap when he drove through the pit lane - at that moment he was moving faster than his rivals.
When the management announced that Williams pilots Alex Albon and Nicholas Latifi could return to the lead circle, but not Tsunoda, the following dialogue took place between Yuki and the engineer.
You can overtake the laps... Wait, wait. Stop, no need to overtake.
What the ? What are we doing?
Stay in position, Yuuki, don`t overtake.
Tsunoda was between Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Sergio Perez (Red Bull). He managed to overtake Sainz, and then returned to his original position. At the restart, the Japanese had to actually stop in order to miss the entire peloton, and there was no chance of fighting for any places.
After the finish, Yuki shared his opinion:
I was told to stay in line. I do not know why. I guess the FIA thought I was fighting for fifth place or something!
