Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has been named the best playmaker in the world for 2019 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
Messi gathered the largest share of the voices of football experts and journalists from 90 countries around the world. He gained 299 points, with second and third in the standings - Kevin De Broyne and Eden Hazard far behind him with 85 and 55 points respectively. This is the fourth such prize for the Argentinean, having won it in 2015, 2016 and 2017. In doing so, he was ranked number one in the top awards in this category with Chavi Hernandez, who also has four. The flea is also the record holder of 10 IFFHS awards for 9 years. His other six are for the top scorer in the top divisions (4) and the best international goal scorer (2).
IFFHS has also given annual awards in other categories. Megan Rapino received the Best Playmaker in Women. Alison Becker and Sarri van Veenendaal were named the best goalkeepers for men and women, respectively.
